Dr. Michelle Levine, associate professor of Bible at , recently delivered a number of lectures to various communities in the US and Israel.
In December, 2016, she spoke to a women’s Shabbat group in Kew Gardens Hills, New York, on the topic of “Chanukah: A Celebration of Torah She-be-al Peh [Torah that is spoken].” She also presented a lecture on “A Timeless Tradition: Chanukah as a Symbol of Jewish Survival,” for the adult institute, Lamdeinu, in Teaneck, New Jersey.
In January, 2017, Levine spoke in Israel at Michlelet Mevaseret Yerushalayim (MMY) about “Revealing the Light of Redemption Through Our Tefillot [prayers].” In addition, Levine was hosted as a scholar in residence for Shabbat in the community of Hashmonaim, Beit Knesset Glenwood, where she spoke on the following topics: “The Symbolism of the Menorah in the Philosophy of R. Obadiah Sforno”; “The Literary Resourcefulness of Biblical Repetition in Ramban’s Commentary on the Joseph Narratives” (Hebrew); and “Forging Our Nation’s Identity: Lessons from Exile and Redemption.”
For 鶹ýӳ’s Midreshet Yom Rishon at the end of January, Dr. Levine delivered a shiur [lecture] on “The Miracle of Nature, the Nature of Miracle: The Plagues in Egypt.”
