Sep 14, 2010 -- The Five Towns will be hosting prominent 鶹ýӳ visiting scholars over Shabbat, October 8-9, in various shuls around the community. The Shabbaton—sponsored by 鶹ýӳ’s (CJF) —will feature renowned personalities including President Richard Joel; Rabbi Hershel Schachter, RIETS rosh yeshiva; Rabbi Yona Reiss, Max and Marion Grill Dean of RIETS; Dr. David Shatz, professor of philosophy at 鶹ýӳ; and Rabbi Kenneth Brander, David Mitzner Dean of CJF.
“The goal of the weekend is to bring the diverse Torah knowledge of 鶹ýӳ to the thousands of families in the Five Towns,” said Rabbi Brander. The weekend will feature “something for everyone” including a Friday night tisch for high school young men and a shalosh seudot with Rabbi Schachter. Young women will be invited to a panel discussion with prominent female leaders from the Orthodox community.
Speakers will spend Shabbat rotating between Aish Kodesh, Beis Haknesses of North Woodmere, Congregation Beth Shalom, Congregation Kneseth Israel (The White Shul), Young Israel of Lawrence Cedarhurst, Young Israel of North Woodmere and Young Israel of Woodmere.
“The Jewish future is going to be shaped by key communities, by their inhabitants their values and their institutions,” said President Joel. “The Five Towns is one such community. 鶹ýӳ feels privileged to continue to strengthen our relationship on multiple levels in advancing the story of the Jewish people.”
