Stern College for Women

Pursue a dual curriculum in liberal arts and sciences and Jewish Studies, rooted in the tradition of Torah Umadda.

Welcome!

Founded in 1954 with a major gift from Max Stern, president of Hartz Mountain Products, Stern College for Women is a pioneer in the field of women's education. We offer women the unprecedented opportunity to earn their bachelor's degree in the arts and sciences and immerse themselves in rigorous Jewish studies at the same time, in the same place. Rooted in our tradition of Torah Umadda, our programs are committed to timeless values and cutting-edge scholarship. Our nurturing campus empowers each student to claim her own voice and forge her own path; our alumni have an enviable record of success, as they move on to top graduate programs and outstanding careers. We take pride in the richness of our curriculum, which excels in the arts, humanities and social sciences, and we are especially well known for educating women in the sciences and mathematics.

Helpful Information

Stern College for Women is a community that strives for the highest ideals. Whether in the classroom, the study halls of Torah, the library, the laboratory, the art or music studio, the gymnasium or athletic field, the synagogue, or out in the community and the world at large, students at Stern College find their voices and their missions.

Our world-class faculty is committed to fostering our students’ pursuit of knowledge in the broadest sense—through both expansive study of classical Jewish texts, as well as deep, open-ended inquiry in the sciences, social and behavioral sciences, arts, and humanities.

Our graduates achieve placement in top-tier graduate schools and experience outstanding professional success. Yet they also gain the understanding that professional placement is only one part of a life, rooted in the ideals and practices of Torah, that includes the continuous search for wisdom, dedicated civic engagement, and a responsibility for the good of humanity.

Students at Stern College for Women come from all corners of the globe to form a community characterized by curiosity, achievement, commitment to Torah, and a deep sense of purpose. They grow into leaders who help bring redemption to the world.

If these lofty ideals speak to you, please join us! We look forward to welcoming you here.

Sincerely,

Rebecca Cypess
